Qatar wins 2019 AFC Asian cup semi final against UAE; ready to face finals
Qatar did it! Congratulations to the whole of Qatar on this historic win.
Qatar has won the semi finals in one of the most exciting and nail - biting matches of the
entire 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE against the home team at Abu Dhabi’s
Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium despite a hostile environment inside the stadium
because of UAE supporters! In fact, UAE supporters even threw shoes, bottles and other items
at the Qatari team after they scored the second goal but this did not deter the Qatar team
who continued to play their best.
What an achievement!
This is the very first time that Qatar has beaten the UAE in an AFC Asian Cup
Tournament, and the very first time that Qatar is in the tournament’s semi finals.
The first goal was scored by Qatar’s Boualem Khoukhi in the 22nd minute of the first half.
Almoez Ali scored the second goal in the 37thminute of the first half of the match bringing his score
total to eight in this tournament and has now equalled Iran player Ali Daei's record for most goals in
a single tournament. The score at the end of the first half
stood at 2 – 0 in favour of Qatar.
In the second half of this semi finals match that has both the Qatari and UAE sides sitting at the
edge of their seats, Qatar continued its winning streak with Hasan Al Haydos scoring the third
goal for Qatar in the 80th minute, and though UAE did have some chances to score, it was unable to.
In the final minutes of the match, UAE’s Ismail Ahmed was sent off the pitch for elbowing
Qatar’s Salem Al Hajri off the ball.
In the extra time of the match (90+3 minutes, Qatar’s Hamid Ismail scored the fourth and final
score of this semi finals leaving the total score at the end of the match at 4 – 0 with Qatar
now in the finals with Japan on 1 February.
Despite the fact that people from Qatar were not there to support its team, support poured
in from Omanis, Qataris and other expat communities who cheered Qatar on to win the
semi finals. Amongst those that were rooting for Qatar is a Korean lady who has been
supporting Qatar throughout the 2019 AFC Asian Cups and even those held before.
Congratulations Qatar
